In the early hours of Wednesday, negotiations between Industri Energi and the Norwegian Shipowners' Association (NR) broke down in the wage settlement for floating rig employees.
The floating rig agreement covers the association's members on mobile offshore facilities, as well as platform drilling on permanently located facilities on the Norwegian continental shelf.
"The rig industry is doing well and we will have a wage settlement that ensures that this industry is competitive in the competition for labour. But the distance between the parties is too great for us to reach the settlement now, says Frode Alfheim, union leader in Industri Energi.
The negotiations then go to mediation with the National Mediator. If there is no agreement there, there will be a strike on the shelf.
The floating rig agreement covers just under 4,000 Industri Energi members who work in companies such as Nobel Drilling, Transocean, Odfjell Drilling, Seadrill, Dolphin Drilling, Saipem, Rowan/Valaris, KCA Modu, Archer, Teekay, Sodexo, Coor, ESS, 4service offshore and others.
During the negotiations, Industri Energi has had a regular dialogue with Safe and the cooperating organisations (DSO). With kind regards
